This is proof of how irrational our system is. Cost #1: EMTs are paid regardless of help Cost #2: Ambulance is sunk cost Cost #3: Expendables are cheap Cost #4: Fuel. Variable cost but negligble So what's the margin on $600 Ambulance ride and who is getting it? Am I wrong?

I mean I realize my tweet isn't related to the substance of the story -the victim's mother claims the EMTs told her this, the EMTs deny it, but the Deputies seem to have said something- but in general, it's believable that she was told this.

Look at it this way if your child had a brain injury after hitting her head and was not well, unresponsive .... would you turn away that ambulance?? Considering she could go into coma or have heart failure or severe shock .. what parent would do that. None.
-
No parent would. If the patient is unresponsive they would fall under the implied consent clause. Meaning that if you were alert you would want to be helped. If these allegations turn out to be true. They had a duty to act and they breached that duty.
-
That's what I'm thinking. Unable to give consent they'd have to assume highest care. I'm factoring that a woman who was foaming at the mouth (before medics) was in a pretty unresponsive state, she couldn't have declined assistance. They're screwed it's a manslaughter charge

They will call in a group of Medics. Similar level of trainning, the same years of service. Then they will ask them what they would have done. I guarantee every Medic will say get a set of vitals as number one. It’s in our trainning.
-
Pretty sure they have Code of Conduct on Emergency call out. What they'll be establishing in the investigation whilst they're off duty is facts of what actually happened. They're pretty damned that 3Ps were there ie Sheriff/Fire Deputies yet Medic report doesn't record call out??

I’m a Crit Care Medic If this is true "They didn't take any vitals, they didn't take any blood pressure.” Then they didn’t assess their patient They breached the Standard of Care, and should have their license pulled, and be prosecuted Any Medic would have at least checked vitals

medical workers indicated that they had not arrived at the scene at all that morning.”

$600? that's cheap I was charged over $1300 for a five minute drive (bls) besides...

In The Netherlands between 1100 and 1500 Euro’s
-
Thank you for the information. Many Americans imagine all medical care is free in every country but their own.
-
In Holland the National Health System costs per person between 100-200 euro’s a month netto and the rest is payed from taxes. And we have two tax discs 42% avg. And 52% for high income groups starting from around 180.000 euro’s a year brutto income
-
Often, even if we're well-traveled, if we're healthy, we have little to no idea about the health care system of another country. I've been to Holland, but even though I've stayed in several people's homes, I'm clueless of what it would be like to need medical care.

I'm capable of eating herring and drop, without getting ill. :))))

We pay taxes for all our wars and holy mission of spreading the Merican dream. I don't know. To have politicians play Monopoly with actual businesses and property.
