Are u referring to the bottomless depth of human imagination and experience, and the endless wonder and magic of childhood? Seems a pretty good source to me...

Ever rewatch Pinocchio or Dumbo? Those get pretty dark. Ariel not turning into sea foam was probably a pretty good change. But wow, just think how dark Pocahontas could have been if it was remotely accurate.

The Little Match Girl still messes me up every time.

Beauty was kidnapped and Stockholm-syndromed into a romantic relationship with The Beast. I think kids are ready for dark stories told outside the classic sugar-coated toxic masculinity we've been taught for decades.

Many of the movies from my childhood included what I consider “dark themes”. A few that struck me extra hard: Bambi, Dumbo, The Lion King, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Land Before Time. The worst one for me as an adult was the beginning of Up.

@DisneyPixar CHILDREN cannot. They can NOT “handle” dark stories. Do NOT expose children’s developing minds to this Crap. Shame on You.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Let kids be kids. Let them experience life without darkness, or escape from their life’s darkness. They have their whole adult life to be exposed to the darker side of life. Let them just be kids. And btw, The Good Dinosaur was quite dark, and it filled ME with anxiety.

Please! Some adults can't handle dark stories (read: stories where a character faces any kind of adversity of any description).

If I can listen to my grqbdmother tell me stories about walking home from school and seeing 200 men and boys hung from trees as a bedtime story than today's kids can deal with a little darkness.

Sure, stories of “getting eaten by your mom” oughta go over real well before bedtime.

but they did anyway and continue to do so. And the censors will decide what films are appropriate for what age bracket.

I don't know. The darkness at a young age is what I believe has lead me to become so cynical and joyless as an adult.
