American diplomats held face-to-face talks with Taliban representatives last week, Taliban officials said. It would be a reversal of longstanding policy.https://nyti.ms/2NTrRz5

Negotiations are the best way to solve any sort of dispute with opponents and enemies as well. No one loves killings and destruction, and sincere efforts to dislodge suspicion created by the vested interests and dirty politics is across the table without hostile attitude.

Of course we did. North Korea, Russia, the Taliban. But, let's pick a fight with Canada.

Anyone who believes that American Military and diplomatic envoys haven't been holding talks with the Taliban or at least factions of the Taliban would be dense. Its not a reversal of long standing policy. Its the norm.

I am skeptical of the Taliban really negotiating when they are winning. The Afgan gov will crumble soon as America leaves.

Long overdue move. The Talibans as loathsome as they are; they are a major and indispensable component of the afghan political and social fabric. So for the US to overlook them and hope they could fixe Afghanistan without them was a folly.

U.S. created Taliban in the first place to destroy Russia and freely elected government of Afghanistan, and now after all these years of occupation they are kissing the butt of Taliban once again
