Didn't expect to see local news from the NYT. In case anyone is wondering, people aren't mad about the shrinking of council, it's the fact that its happening in the middle of an election process that has taken months of careful planning to ensure a fair process...

...and the candidates who have poured their time and money campaigning for a seat in a ward that will no longer exist. To quote Mayor Tory, "you don't change the rules in the middle of the game."

I would say plenty of people are mad. They’ve effectively doubled the size of constituencies, and rammed through a resolution that was rejected at the city council level in 2013

Do you really think city councilors would vote in favour of removing their own job? This change was needed, there is no need for so many councilors at such an expense to taxpayers. They don't give back in value what we pay for them.

I totally agree that council needs to be shrunk, maybe not as severely as Ford wants but all the same the fact remains he announced this plan at the literal worst possible time for it.

It's almost guaranteed to be colossal screw up, hundreds of people (not including volunteers and campaign staff) put their lives on hold since the spring and suddenly this lands on their laps

I’m a Toronto voter and we decide on local politics! This is a democracy!! @fordnation you have no jurisdiction here. Any action without the consent of voters is an attack on democracy!

I don't know what your voters were thinking when they elected this guy. The family connections should have been plenty of warning regarding the mental stability of the family To have expected something different from Doug Ford would have required a different heredity.

I know you people in Canada (pardon the assumption) have your problems but here in the US, Trump makes many of us wonder if we should not emigrate there and I have never felt that way before.

Ontario's 'premier' is a thug and just another trump wannabe. He is causing chaos and confusion and is as delighted with the outcome as your Lunatic-In-Chief. When this clown got elected I predicted Ontario was now on a downward spiral and it's becoming true.
