        Nope, the flag came some time after settlement, when both countries were colonies and flew the Union Jack. New Zealand got its flag first, then Australia copied the design.

        As two countries that were colonised almost simultaneously, the flags were inevitably going to be similar. The Aussies didn’t steal the flag. They did however steal the pav and the flat white which is a far more serious crime.

        Australia has white stars in its flag while New zeland has red stars. At the end, they both were colonized by the british empire.
