Caring for others’ offspring is found throughout nature. It’s called altruism, and it’s not just for people. Wildlife biologists (and Republicans) have long been confused by this behavior but it increases a species’ chances for survival even as it puts a strain on the individual.

I start as a secondary school teacher this september ;) (was an engineer till now... but maybe I felt the hen I was in another life, deep inside me).

May God bless that hen for looking after them. The sad thing is that it seems something happened to the parents of a lot of those chicks. That would be the only reason they are following her. I hope they thrive.
