The Supreme Court ruled with little controversy in 1973 that women had a constitutional right to abortion. How did the decision give way to the deep and enduring political rifts we face today?https://nyti.ms/2uKZMmI

Rose vs. Wade was not the beginning of women having abortions. It was the end of women dying from them.

The argument that government should protect those who cannot protect themselves is certainly worth consideration. It’s part of the 14th amendment, and one of the most ancient functions of any goverment. Hardly “extreme.”

In Gallup polling, "ban abortion in all cases" hasn't topped 22 percent support in America since the started asking the question in 1975. There's no "deep and enduring rift." There's a minority of loudmouthed cranks and the politicians who profit from them.

Those loudmouth cranks are currently in control of the House, the Senate and Congress, while simultaneously stacking the Supreme court with conservative judges.

With little controversy? It was one of the worst decided supreme court cases ever as there is quite literally nothing in the Constitution even remotely close that should’ve allowed this. Judicial activism is real & wrong. Politicization of the courts is a real & dangerous thing.

Do you think the government should be able to force you to give blood or donate organs to keep someone else alive? No? Why not? Because you have ownership of your body, right? Why don't you think women deserve the same rights?

Left to their own devices in their environment organs or blood don’t turn into a person... The govt is in the business of protecting people from people.

Uh, the person who's dying is a person. Your blood could save them. Shouldn't you be forced to give it to them? Or do you have bodily autonomy and you can choose whether or not to sacrifice part of yourself for another living being?

To be fair, that's not exactly apples to apples. A living person in need of a blood transfusion is a living person. An embryo is a bundle of cells that isn't viable outside the woman's body, and has a very high likelihood (25-40%) of terminating itself anyway.
