A recent uptick in denaturalization cases has deeply unsettled many immigrants who had long believed that a U.S. passport warded off a lifetime of anxiety over possible deportationhttps://nyti.ms/2LdPZ2C

If they defrauded the US Government to obtain citizenship they are not immune from deportation

I'd like to believe that's just it--BUT (1) she wasn't even charged when she became a citizen (2) what was she told (as a citizen) when she pled?--other citizens wouldn't lose their citizenship & (3) I suspect this is part of a larger effort to denaturalize. It is scary.

It’s not, what it shows is how incompetent our government is that it takes years for them to finish background checks and verify documentation

I hope you are right. We have much different citizenship requirements than other countries, and while I understand people disagree with that, and want them narrowed, as the mother of two adopted children....this would be a personal nightmare. It's a slippery slope.

A lot of people will ask...who, in their right mind will want to acquire US citizenship if it can be revoked on a whim?

I thought this was someone who’d been unfairly denaturalized. When applying for citizenship, you can’t omit any information about yourself. You must always be honest and tell the truth. It’s a painstaking process but worth it. She thought she could do things Peruvian style.

A nightmare--I worry about my kids. Having citizenship taken away...if they happen to run a red light, be arrested for drunk driving (I obviously hope I'm raising them to be more sensible), or anything, more or less serious...they are proud American citizens!!

Only if they became citizens under a false name. I thought it would be terrible if they did this and it does seem a slippery slope, though, so that only native born people live here.
