One man shot and killed another in Florida during an argument over a parking space. He won't be arrested or charged because of the state’s Stand Your Ground law, the authorities saidhttps://nyti.ms/2zXq1LO

Florida lawmakers are beholden to gun lobby and this Wild West atmosphere is result. Until Democrats are elected and/or tourism takes a hit things won’t change. I can’t vote in Florida but I won’t spend a dime visiting that state.

The NRA is in the back pocket of every major federal and state lawmaker in the U.S. This is why your children keep getting murdered en mass at school and no one does anything about gun control. The gun lobby has too much control.

Your nation is built on a culture of violence. You got your independence from the end of a cannon. We in Canada negotiated ours. Our foreign policy dictates that we go in, offer assistance, mediate. Yours goes in with Special Forces and Marine Battalions. Something is wrong

with you people. To think that the right to carry a loaded weapon is more important than the sanctity of human life. Can you really say that you are in the land of the free when you are in constant fear of violence? Get a grip America.

Actually no. I would say this was manslaughter as malice aforethought is not obvious.

fair enough Sir, I am not a Florida law specialist in any way, and you may very well be correct. Here in Australia though, if you shot an unarmed and retreating man in the heart - despite the fact they may have just assaulted you - you would be charged with murder.

Yes indeed, and the legal details aside it is clear that such behavior cannot be accepted in a somewhat civilized society. I am personally completely appalled by the killing itself but even more so by the sheriff’s reasoning.

As the saying goes, "When the rest of the country flushes the toilet....." Ever notice all the criminals escaping the law run to Florida? There's such a transient population they blend right in; and to think when I was growing up in the 70s, we never even locked our doors.

I graduated from the University of Miami and a friend of mine was stabbed to death in a road rage incident. The police never caught the person(s) responsible. This happened back in the 80s when Miami was the "Cocaine Capital" of the U.S. That decade really began the decline of FL

I cannot understand defences of gun laws in the US. Whatever you want to say about a 'good guy with a gun', your dream scenario clearly isn't working. Ever noticed how countries who did have problems with mass shootings suddenly... didn't, after gun ownership restrictions?
