I’m so tired of seeing this being used to debunk needing to get rid of plastic waste as if it’s literally the only reason why people are against it. Or people solely blaming corporations. Anything to dismiss personal responsibility. It’s weak. We all need to do our part.

Your twitter account and others like it are spreading misinformation that is harming disabled people and promoting hatred against people who need straws to live. It would be great if you channeled your energy into promoting policies that actually help the environment.

This, ironically, is a straw man argument. We use a lot of straws, however you count it.
-
Yes, the person who made the study shouldn't be critical, but that's still more than one straw person per day, nearly two. A rather high overestimation regardless.
-
Ugh. You are still focused on the 500 million. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

I have a solution to reduce straw usage 30-40%. It's complicated, so stay with me: We train waiters, waitresses, and bartenders not to bring a second straw when giving you a drink refill. I know. I know! It'll be rough, but we can do it.

Paper/biodegradable straws.

Straws are what percentage of ocean plastic? What is the greatest contributor to ocean plastic pollution? Doesn't it make the most sense to focus energy and attention on the greatest source of ocean pollution first?
-
Might as well start with the easiest thing
-
Yes. Nets. Plastic nets make up the largest percentage of the ocean's plastic waste. We need to figure out a way to deal with the nets and then work our way down the list. Straws make up a tiny percent of plastic waste in the ocean, but they give virtue signalers all they want.

The truth is, this danger belongs to that generation. People in their 40s or 50s are on their way out. It is the children that will suffer the consequences of our actions.
-
Uh... I beg to differ there, Sheyla! I’m 53 and plan to be around a lot longer. Not even close to being on my way out, thank you.

-
glad you think so. We (older peeps) can still save this

Versus China and India's use of plastic this amount is infinitesimal. And some Americans, particularly older ones need straws. SO FOCUS ON INDIA AND CHINA THAT ARE RUINING THE OCEANS EVERY DAY!
