I don't think we should be looking at a workplace that restricts what their employees eat in a progressive or positive light.

If you care about animal suffering and/or the planet's survival (and by extension, *our* survival), yes we should. The meat and dairy industries are bigger polluters and contributors to climate change than the oil industry.https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/meat-dairy-industry-greenhouse-gas-emissions-fossil-fuels-oil-pollution-iatp-grain-a8451871.html …

That's a bunch of bull. There is 0 evidence that meat is harmful to our planet or to people health. That's anti meat propaganda.
-
I'm not a big meat eater myself but I just think it's weird and controlling to tell your employees what they are allowed to eat.
-
But if you read the NYT article, do you also think it's weird & controlling for these employers to be telling their employees what to do in their personal lives? And this company going veg doesn't *ban* meat, it simply doesn't offer it at company functions or reimburse for it.pic.twitter.com/VSfMWhXhPO

'“Animals have a place in the human diet,” said Marion Nestle, professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University.' Really? On what basis does Nestle make that claim, and why didn't the reporter challenge her to provide empirical studies to that effect?

This is encouraging news, and if all manner of things such as smoking or wearing scents can be banned from the workplace, this company not offering animal flesh seems well within their rights. If we want to have a livable planet, please go vegan.

Works for me.

I would have loved this policy in my previous workplaces. It was hard- and slim pickins' -to eat vegetarian/vegan when there were so few options available. People think all we eat is lettuce, but there's amazing vegan recipes and dishes that are hearty, nutritious, delish & kind.

Every progressive workplace should take note and follow lead. I hope this sticks. Thanks,
@WeWork. -
Also wish
@nytimes would've used a less biased, more accurate headline instead of alienating otherwise sympathetic readers from a reasonable & environmentally-friendly change. Obviously people can still bring their own (meat-based) lunches and apply for necessary exemptions. -
Literally only clicked through to see what breathlessly stupid disservice the Times did to what was probably going to be a reasonable policy. I guess sometimes clickbait works?

Gross. When the boss tells you what you can and can't eat (even if you're a vegetarian and they demand just that), it's time to leave. It's outrageous and offensive.

That's some serious corporate overreach.

This is creepy. They're punishing employees for what they eat. Its none of their damned business.

And their employees who have Bowel disease such as Chrons and Illeitis and can't eat roughage can do what?
