Good. Google is really a shitty company when it comes to their business model. They, collect feed off users private data, using algorithms to generate your life story and predict future decision making. The Android phone was conceived specifically as a data mining tool.

No wonder Google is working on AI...they’re compiling our personal data (essentially DNA) via products, Google search engine and scanning your Gmail other Google product data to create Ex Machina!

Of course...but Google is god and Facebook is Jesus in that realm. You can somewhat control what information is “given” on some other platforms. With Google...people tend to search the most private things. Twitter is actually better than some of the other social media platforms.

Foreign allies have to do it because our government has been captured by corporate power and billionaires.

Me. Fancy a pint? I believe it goes to the Commission General Fund, but I could be wrong on that.

Absolutely, can pick me up in the private jet 👌 I wonder how they use they money, let's be honest 5.1 billion is an incredible sum of money, could be used for so much good but I get the feeling that won't ever be the case 😏

Oh it will. The commission fiined here for the whole 27(8)? The money will be used for the whole effectively. You can follow it up on their relevant websites. Everything they do is transparently published except genuine issues of security.

Well that's reassuring! Transparency and money doesn't really exist so refreshing to see there are still some good organisations

Someone help me out, how does Europe have authority over American companies like this? Also the fine seems pretty excessive, where is this money going to go assuming it ever gets paid out?

They are operating under EU law. That simple.

Precisely. Google operates http://Google.fr , http://Google.de  (the French and German versions of the search engine) so even by just having that, they fall under EU law. Not to mention, just by having data centers anywhere in the EU, you abide by EU law.

So if they offer their products in the EU, they have to abide by EU law, no?
