        This trade deal has been a long time coming. It isn’t a consequence of the ongoing trade conflicts. Most trade deals take years to draft and implement. They aren’t drawn up on a whim or as backlash.

        True, but it got a boost from Trump pulling out of TPP. Japan was preoccupied with TPP for years. The shift from TPP to "New"-TPP cut many US specific regulations out of the equation. Plus, suddenly EU was the closest available heavy weight in the FT landscape. Lots of momentum

        EU Japan has been a work in process for a long time just as was EU Canada. The EU has been diligently working on bilateral agreements long before Trump came into the picture. And will continue long after he is ejected from it.

        Higher tariffs make US Steel cheaper. Cheaper US Steel increases demand. Demand increases production. Increased production requires more workers. Thus jobs being created. Thoughts?
