All I need to know is how long I can cancel Hulu for.

So I don't have to pay for it until Handmaid's Tale is back.
-
It will always come back because June always comes back.
-
And I'll come back as soon as she does.

Lydia will survive. Unfortunately.

It’s a confusing series of decisions, but that is the point. Internalized misogyny and oppression evokes very complicated psychological rationales In other words, Serena Joy is probably the single most complicated character ever written & June has unconditional compassion.
-
Yep. So many people want things cut and dry. People are messy so these characters are messy.
-
Exactly, and I think that was the purpose of the whole season.. it was supposed to be an evolution of the characters. See what their complex motivations are etc. TBH I thought it was really well written.
-
It really was. Much more complex than the book I read when I was young. It’d be messy trying to escape (more than one try). Messy to tear down what the zealot Talibangelicals built, too. Stops and starts in changing evil women like Serena. She’ll relapse again.
-
Totally, I also think it pointed out a very important fact about feminism, and why some women continue to reject it (side with old white men).
-
Yes. My husband and I were able to leave evangelicalism 10 years ago because we moved away from family 20 years ago. We are *still* detoxing and deprogramming. White patriarchy is an incredibly stubborn poison.
-
Good for you!! My Uncle's family was like that, technically they are "covenant protestant" but it's like this weird little cult bubble that they live in, circa NC. My one cousin moved to San Diego long ago, he's the only one that doesn't terrify me. Religion can get weird... fast.
-
Ugh, yes. I’m sorry your uncle’s family is in it.

SPOILERS: Overall, it was a strong finale with lots of surprises (Ann Dowd!). I kind of didn't like Joan's final decision, though, as it basically placed a lot of folks in jeopardy, plus who's feeding baby Holly/Nicole?

Totally agree, what are they going to stop at a store for formula and diapers on the way to Canada?

She tried to escape twice already without Hannah - makes no sense that she suddenly stays, and even less sense telling Emily to call the baby Nicole. Also, hello, what's Holly going to eat? Plus slap in the face to everyone who endangered themselves for her.. again.

Worst finale since HIMYM. They've played the "she escapes and goes back" card one too many times to care about season 3.
