Hi @HLDingui, Detention cost about $150-200 per adult per night and $250-775 per child per night. Ankle monitoring programs cost about $5 per day. This change will save hundreds of millions of dollars for taxpayers. Regards, Tom

This is such an incomplete financial accounting of the cost of immigration on citizen taxpayers—$296 nillion annually. France now finds itself in the position of slashing welfare benefits to citizens to pay for the onslaught of immigrants. There is no money tree.

The "money tree" is reducing defense spending and setting tax rates to where they were in the 1960s. Pretty simple.

Dear @nytimes: Please stop using the term "catch and release." It's a phrase borrowed from fishing and deliberately used by Trump and his supporters to dehumanize the people coming to our border for help.

History did not start when you were born or when you became woke. It’s been used at least since the 80s because it’s an accurate description of what happens.

Taken in and released? Detained and liberated? I guess you can use synonymous, but doesn't really change the fact that they were catched crossing the border and let go when awaiting trial....

$4.50 per person total vs $100-200 a day for detention. And they actually show up in court, so it works.

You’re missing the point. It’s not ankle monitors versus incarceration; it’s the entire poorly planned zero tolerance mess. The recovery from implementing a half cocked policy will be immensely expensive

Oh yes. On that I agree! But given that the president almost ran through the entire annual budget by March, somehow I think that's the least of our problems. Not to mention that we might end up defaulting on W's loans from China if they decide to play hardball on the trade war.

NYT- do you not recognize how offensive the phrase “catch and release”? This is not sport-fishing. These are human beings. And they certainly do not share any degree of freedom analogous to a fish being returned to the ocean. STOP repeating this offensive and inaccurate phrase.
