Age discrimination should be getting the same attention. Especially for women! It’s insidious and rampant!!

I'm sorry, but that was not smart interviewing. Anyone should know you don't disclose this. The employer has the right to choose whomever they think can fulfill the job best and not call out when the child is sick, etc.
-
She didn’t mention it until after they offered her the job. They rescinded the offer after finding out.
-
Seen it dozens of times. Everyone else does her work, while she cruises in about 2 hours after everyone else,
#reasons drop off at child care. Milks herself till lunch, takes 2 hours. Milks herself till 3:00 when she leaves to pick up kid at child care. Men love this.

-
I don't have a problem with that as long as she has spent considerable time working with us. Its tough to be a working Mom. However, when we get a new resource who is actually not, then I dont have any sympathy.

As if the guilt of leaving a newborn in the care of others while you go to work wasn’t bad enough.

Early in my career a senior staffer decided to star a family. Thanks to rotating coverage, For the next 4-5 years I was stuck covering her on call, nights and weekends (along with my own) while she had three kids (pre-natal, maternity, and well-baby, appointments and absences)
-
I find the people who complain about this sort of thing are really mediocre at their jobs
-
Please tell me how many 60 hour weeks you put in while covering for someone else and doing the job of a senior staff member. Oh and you can't be promoted cause that position is filled?
#illwait -
I’m literally covering 80% of my senior manager’s duties right at this very moment while she’s on leave in addition to all of my own duties while parenting an infant. Once I got used to the balancing act it got easier. I’m def not gonna be complaining about it years from now
-
We'll see about that; hmu in a few years... We can kvetch.

"Thank you for the offer. I will join on Monday and from Tuesday go on maternity leave". Thats pretty callous to your new boss, aint it?

Maybe she could had told her boss about the kid.If the kid is sick or something then how is she going to be 100% compromised with the job?On the other hand,I find the boss reaction a bit discriminatory. Both were wrong.
-
She told them that she had recently had a baby. They chose to rescind the job offer. It isn’t their business that she’s just had a baby. Would a male be considered unemployable because his wife had a baby? Most people I know manage to parent AND be competent employees.
-
Strange but true, when you or family member gets sick, most employees have sick days. Would a man be questioned about his ability to do the job in the same curcumstances? And, before you ask, I worked in museums and with curators who had babies. It didn’t affect their work.
-
Yup,that's my point. Some people have "sick days" due to problems at home.I really find discriminatory the reaction of the boss,I'm a women too.But maybe they have policies.IK ITS WRONG,but there are many jobs where you can't work if u r pregnant or have kids.
