Every year, a Japanese-American man visits the internment camp in California where he and his family were held when he was a child. His purpose is to remember — and to educate.https://nyti.ms/2u1RTZC

Now activists are stealing Japanese-American history, and distorting it to fit their own narrative. Many interned Japanese were AMERICAN CITIZENS. They were removed from homes, in which they resided legally. The inaccurate comparisons aren't appreciated.

I think the most important thing is that they are both (American-japenese in WW2 and the "Illegals" nowdays ) human beings with the only hope of living a decent life

We know everyone's a human being. It's not right to steal people's history to make inaccurate comparisons. We live in a time where people call each other out for "appropriating" each others music/food/clothing. Yet "empathetic" folks think it's ok to grab someone's history. 1

Comparing current events to African-American history is also completely inaccurate. Don't steal history for your own purposes. African Americans didn't just show up here. They were captured and brought here in chains. Generations of slavery. 3/

I'm so touched to hear that Amelia's Notebook is how you heard about Manzanar! I didn't learn about it in school, either, but from friends whose families had been interned, history that was a kick in the gut.

A reminder of what panic and intolerance can do. A sad time in our history. Another reminder, and we’ve had many daily, that our aspiration to form a more perfect union continues. I have hope for America. We are a good and just people. And we will do better.
