The World Health Organization has made "internet gaming" a diagnosable disorder, but many psychologists are skeptical that it exists at all as a stand-alone problemhttps://nyti.ms/2KCtrbr

Oh. So it's just isolated to games. I call bull. How about, reality TV, Bing watching, internet browsing, phone media, tv watching, etc. It's easy to say that about games but not about anything else because they can always use video games as a sacrificial sheep.

The bad habit becomes an illness. I have seen it. I have seen people recover from it, but it changes brain wiring sometimes.

It's an addiction that provides a dopamine rush like gambling or sex. Seems like a stand-alone problem to me.

if kids die from gaming non-stop for days on end. Don't blame the games, Blame the people who are responsible for the kids. If its adults then they should know better😂 soon games will have warning labels like cigarette boxes

It's an escape. So, actually it's a symptom of other more serious problems. "IF" the person is taking it to unhealthy levels for prolonged periods of time. You'll know right away. A person enjoying it for a couple hours a day isn't really a person with a problem. JS

I don’t really view what they have now as a disorder. Instead they should tweak the addiction category to include electronics and gaming (which is a mental illness). Everyday people aren’t going to have an issue. This diagnosis, however, is kind of...strange.

Want to see if it’s truly an addiction? Take 2 guys, 1 gaming addiction, 1 heroin addict. Take the heroin & gaming away. Let’s see who blows a man first for his fix.I doubt a guy will blow a dude to play a game. Reality, it’s not an addiction,it’s just sad that they have no life

You know I scanned down this OPINION piece looking for the credentials of the person who wrote it. I see no credentials. So I give his opinion no creedence. Talk to me about this when an actual medical or psychological expert provides an opinion. Not worth my time.

Non-expert opinions are worthy of consideration, but not on topics that require deep subject matter expertise, such as this. I expect better from NYT.
