Trained divers, single bodies, are having trouble getting through and a Thai Navy Seal has died, but you think a 'minisubmarine' (whatever the hell that's supposed to look like) can get down there? This guy's opinion seems grounded.

Right, part of journey the drivers have to take off their tanks and push it ahead of them to fit. I've only heard a single NPR story on this and I know that's not gunna work.

The device in question is very small. It's part of a refueling boom and built to withstand extremes. A submarine that actually fits thru the holes successfully might save divers' lives, as the boys are untrained and will most likely panic otherwise. CO2 is poisoning them.

How about an air tube, that they can crawl through to safety... logistics of submarine transport is tricky

Mr. Musk has an incredible perspective; he is creative, free willed, driven, fearless and above all else extremely helpful. The world needs more people with character and heart like Mr. Musk. I pray these children are rescued and appreciate those who have the balls to do it.

Mr . Musk has sent experts to the scene that may be of assistance to the trapped children . Tunneling of any sort involves dealing with water ingress and how to best deal with it. Hopefully his employees with be able to help before it is too late.

A TBM doesn't work that way. It has to be enplaced, you have to know the geology of the rock and they bore incredibly slow. By the time he got it there and even started digging the flooding would have receded enough for them to leave on their own.

I was thinking more of dewatering the cave complex to make a rescue easier . Many tunnels and mines have large water problems and yet they find a way to get the job done. I see some of the children have made it out safely. Hope the rest make it out tomorrow .

Couldn't agree more, but a TBM won't alleviate that issue in the short term. And you are correct in that water is always an issue in mining. The worst part is if your were to hit a river, reservoir while digging, it would potentially be catastrophic. Knowing the geology helps.
