In Opinion David Brooks writes that the power of "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" is in Mr. Rogers’s "radical kindness at a time when public kindness is scarce"https://nyti.ms/2u14JYe

Except David Brooks has spent his entire career sowing the discord and selfishness anathema to Fred's teaching. Brooks's definition of kindness is to stop criticizing him for being a terrible person.

Fred Rogers was sincere & empathetic, a genuinely good person. His gentleness was not a character put on for a program. PBS just let him be himself.

Public kindness isn't scarce, only in your headlines. Most people are getting along wonderfully and this is the safest time in history.

Dear NYT, Spare us the irrelevant pablum David Brooks dumps on your pages. We would be better served by watching paintings by Grandma Moses. As accurate, professional & appropriate as Trump’s-passive-aggressive-closet-fan bloviations but prettier & entertaining. You’re welcome!

There is tons of public kindness or “go fund me” etc wouldn’t exist. But at the same time unkindness has gotten supercharged and it drowns out goodness.

Beautifully stated. Ten or even five years ago this film would not have been a tear jerked. In a country that is lead by someone who assaults us everyday, this film will make you cry for the precious gift of kindness.

I don't think Mr. Rogers would have put kids in cages, also. Just to state the obvious.

Actually, I think his house was open to all kids. As an ordained minister, he actually took the parable of the Good Samaritan to heart, as opposed to the "nominal" Christian party.

Too bad the Native Americans didn't have your immigration policy to hold your ancestors back (and mine).
