European carmakers have turned Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee into auto manufacturing powerhouses in recent years. Yet being major employers in regions that voted heavily for President Trump has not protected them.https://nyti.ms/2tS16nl

Trump supporters are going to keep supporting Trump because stupidity doesn't magically cure itself overnight. I'm glad I could explain this to you, New York Times, you're welcome.

Bullshit! Trump has done plenty to strengthen American industry. Despite the constant bullshit and fake news saying otherwise.

I think you’re missing the point Matt. And in case you don’t believe the NYT, this information is readily available from other media sources.

Yes, for the sake of your jobs, you need to read more widely and see the significant impact of Trump’s tariffs and his behavior towards allies. We will lose significantly as the economy which was moving to stable and growth is showing signs of recession.

Economists look at yield curves starting to flatten as an indicator. The Govt. took on incredible debt but tax cuts were given to corporates / high wealth, it was not significant to less wealthy or poorer groups so they continue to take on more debt. Tariffs increase products

So you don’t mind if a few thousand of your neighbors lose their jobs? It’s ok if people lose their savings or have to hold off sending their kids to college? Some of you will never learn.

Thinking short term is what got us in this mess. We could go for the money now and kick the can down to our grand kids. Do what the Unions did up north and just vote for our own interests and short term profit...See how that's worked so well. In fact it's the Cont

Why would anyone not expect other countries to retaliate when the United States imposes tariffs? Why would anyone not think tariffs increase costs of industrial inputs and raw materials for American producers? Why would anyone not think tariffs increase costs consumers pay?

Which in turn makes it profitable for AMERICAN industry to step up and fill those gaps at a cheaper cost. You’re welcome.

They may step up, but don't expect cheaper. Corps exist for profit; if imports are 20% more expensive, domestic prices can *increase* by 15% or more & still be "cheaper" than imports. In a trade war, we lose. More $$ to corps who can't compete w/o charging higher prices.

The more Southern workers are laid off, the more time they'll have to attend Trump rallies. Donnie is tired of seeing empty grandstands.

3/ The dealerships will have to raise prices to stay in business, and that, along with the increased MSRP of the vehicles will hurt the US auto market. People can't buy what they can't afford. And this will impact poorer Americans first.

2/ Dealership parts depts supply the local dealers as well as the independent repair shops, mom & pop. As the prices for parts goes up b/c of tariffs, the costs trickle down to the repair shops, and to the customers: YOU.
