Purdue Pharma has paid millions in fines. That $$ could help people with recovery. Drugs are not the only substances that are addictive: food, sex, gambling, cigarettes, alcohol, the internet. Addiction needs to be treated as the chronic illness that it is.

My state (MA) is suing Purdue Pharma along with other states. This is a small, family owned co. out of CT that has made billions off the backs of sick people & created a generation of opiate addicts. It may take awhile to prosecute but it is happening.

Pharma Reps are on every MSM board controlling the media messaging, & from 1998 to 2018, has spent $3,872,801,120 influencing our elected Politicians to protect their profits over the American people’s interest. It’s up to US to STOP THE CORRUPTION

It is only addictive if one is an addict,,,has an addictive personality,,, Also if administered in hospital by nurses it can only be given at certain intervals ,,,as ordered by doctor
-
I have been prescribed Endone ,,,but I only take I/2 tablet if necessary ,,I still have the whole box full nearly I’m not an addict
-
I worked with dual diagnosed for 25 years. Not one has said I want to be an addict when I grow up. Cannabis is being used to wean people off opiates. Addiction is not & never has been a choice. It begins with self-medicating due to trauma/ mental illness.

I would love to take Trump and Congress to the streets of Kensington in Philadelphia where I volunteer. Talk to these people, listen to their stories. These are kind, talented, wonderful, but sick people in need of care. They are someone’s child.

Do we not punished the drug cartels of Mexico for suppling cocaine, heroine, or weed? The drug companies share the bulk of the blame for lying to physicians about the effects of their drugs. The issue has many layers. Those that profited from it must pony up to fix it.

@nytimes Illicit Fentanyl and Heroin are what's at the center of the opiod crisis, not chronic pain patients with prescription, please don't word it to make it look like anyone who takes this is a bad addicted person! Get your facts straight!! -
No one is making chronic pain patients look like addicts. But, many chronic pain patients become addicts. And, many unsuspecting patients just following doctor’s orders become addicts. These meds are needed, but must be closely monitored.

After the 60 Minutes episode and rejection of Trump’s drug czar candidate, you’d think some level of action would have been taken by now against the drug distributors. Congress asleep at the wheel?
