This is a ridiculous way to frame @marcorandazza doing his job as a 1st Amendment lawyer. I disagree with Marc on many things, including many legal positions he takes and dislike many people he represents, but this @nytimes take is just... bad.https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1014116580521897984 …

Combined with the
@nytimes recent story suggesting that conservatives don't deserve the 1st Amendment, I'm wondering what the fuck is going on over there. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20180701/23032040146/ny-times-winner-key-1st-amendment-case-suddenly-seems-upset-that-1st-amendment-protects-conservatives-too.shtml … Too bad they got rid of the Public Editor. - 1 more reply

Oh come on. First Amendment lawyers represent people whose speech we hate. That's their job.
-
second headline today subtly referring to a respected First Amendment lawyer as a Nazi based on his clients. Could care less about Jones but that’s as dumb as “defense attorney represented a MURDERER”

So essentially he has hired a principled and professional 1A lawyer. Got it.

This is why editorials (expressing the subjective point of view of the editor) should be clearly separated from reporting (which should be an objective presentation of events). This kind of journalism impacts on general ethics in the media.

Reporting the news. That’s all this is. You’re not making your point.
-
This is a terrible way to report news. Would you be happy if Breitbart published a piece identifying the ACLU “a group of lawyers that defends Neo-nazis”? Jones is obviously the worst person in the world etc., but him hiring respected first amendment lawyers isn’t at all damning
-
I could not agree more. Using the same kind of labeling and violent exposure as one’s opponent devalues one‘s own morality. It is difficult to call someone names, while using the same type of behavior.

Since when do we see a first amendment lawyer whose clients include kind people with palpable views? Bad headline.

We're just straight up going to headline-smear top First Amendment attorneys for defending the rights of people who do have a right to competent representation. Okie-doke.

The decline of the NYT continues.
