"Literally thousands of African-Americans were being lynched throughout history, and the Senate never stepped up to pass any legislation to stop this heinous, despicable behavior," said Cory Booker, Democrat of New Jerseyhttps://nyti.ms/2tLWCPb

Great legislation no question! But ppl are currently and potentially dying of many more everyday ways than lynching- Dems stay focused - on today’s MAIN issues. Nov is coming! Don’t get distracted!

Hmmm wouldn’t lynching be covered under 1st degree murder? Or am I missing something?

We have had so many "suicides" by hanging in the black community. Impossibly hanged people. Suspicious and were really lynchings. Like a teen who supposedly hanged himself 40ft in the air miles upon miles from him. Or 8 yr old hanged.https://abcnews.go.com/US/woman-hanging-incident-injured-year-son-intentional/story?id=49831012 …

I was not arguing that there haven’t been racially motivated hangings - but querying why you need a separate legal classification when 1st degree murder would cover the crime.

I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that at least two of the Senators sponsoring this bill to further criminalize an act that hasn’t happened in the US in decades are also expected to run for President in two years

Why are two African Americans, and a Jamaican American. So interested in this bill at this point in history. As if Lynching wasn’t already a crime. If you say it’s for AA’s. Well then their blowing smoke💨. Because AA communities are dealing with more systematic issues. RACE CON!

I wouldn't go as far as you, but it is perplexing. Existing laws cover lynching and there are more pressing issues.

@SenateDems @HouseDemocrats @SenateGOP @WhiteHouse @HouseGOP I could support this only if ,like Health Insurance Plans, politicians would not be governed by the law. Instead of a hate crime it would be considered a public service
