Senator Susan Collins, a moderate Maine Republican whose vote could prove decisive in filling the Supreme Court’s vacant seat, said that she would not vote for a nominee who showed “hostility” toward Roe v. Wadehttps://nyti.ms/2z0LR09

Stop portraying Collins as a moderate or swing vote. Her track record on ACA and taxes should tell you that she will say anything and then vote with the rest of her party regardless!

Susan Collins knows as well as anybody, that given that all of Trump’s candidates were vetted by the Federalist Society, they are by definition, against Roe v Wade. She is at best being disingenuous.

Not to mention, in their confirmation hearings, the nominees are so squirrelly and noncommittal about their views on specific matters of law that none would ever admit in public to being hostile towards Roe v. Wade

All of Trump's 25 picks want to see Roe overturned, whether they show "hostility" or not. Collins must vote against any one of these picks, or she will go down in history as being complicit in eroding women's rights, and medical rights, as well.

Yep. The more important quote from her is the Gorsuch "upholding precedent" fig leaf. My bet is she'll go along w/ the nominee using this Gorsuch excuse & be "shocked" & "betrayed" when he votes to overturn.

We will see. Track record of Republicans keeping their word re resisting Trump has been rather lamentable -- to put it generously.

She is not a moderate. She is a typical rank and file GOP who talks a big game about being a “maverick” but who will always “get in line”.

@SenatorCollins If this is true, thank you. But please stay true to your word. Also this vote should not happen until the special counsel has completed his investigation. No president should be able to to nominate the person who could decide his fate. Major conflict of interest.

Subtext: Collins is fine with a 5th vote to overturn Roe as long as the person does not demonstrate hostility towards Roe at their confirmation hearing. Needs plausible deniability.
