He appears to be a white male who killed a bunch of people and was taken alive by the police. Seems like we've seen this pattern before.

Great signal to the next mass shooter that the New York Times will give him all the personal publicity he dreams of.
-
Has there been any documentation indicating that any of the recent mass shooters were foremost worried about how much publicity their act would generate on their behalf?

Remember how we’re not supposed to do this? Publish their name in a headline and propagate a picture of their face?
-
Maybe you want to live in communist China or something? In this country we make public the info on criminals and the crimes against them. It's a major part of how we maintain justice.
-
The idea is it glorifies the criminal. Many of them commit these shootings because they want fame. This guy seems a bit different though. He had a problem with the paper. He didn’t just pick it at random. I don’t think he was looking for fame.
-
Yeah I get the concept but unfortunately it conflicts with how our justice system and media work. People need to work on root causes not these after the fact things that are never going to change.

Stop it. Seriously, stop publishing names of shooters. Studies have demonstrated that doing so only further encourages copycat behavior. It’s not just frustrated readers commenting on Twitter - there is actual evidence to support that claim.
