The U.S. Open is revamping its seeding process to protect women returning to the court after giving birth. Serena Williams was just seeded 25th.https://nyti.ms/2tA4GCh

Love moves like this that support working moms returning to work. No need to start back at the bottom of the ladder anymore! (Plus I love Selena I can't wait to see her in action again!)

@LylajoyRose because the grass court season is so short, wimbledon seeds players based on prior grass performance. nothing at all ridiculous or “nuts” about it because it’s always been done this way. they’ve given #2 ranked players the #1 seed because they are better at grass

Read the story again, this seed was because Williams just had a baby and they apparently did want her to play so soon after giving birth, which is nutty

@serenawilliams seeded 25th! What an absolute joke! She should be among the first four seeds.

unfair to all those who put their tennis careers ahead of child birth. this IS professional tennis, is it not? and not mothers-who-play-tennis, right?

approximately none of them have ever taken it but protections are put into place for any player who is forced to miss time on court for medical and sometimes personal reasons

'approximately none'... few? well, actually, it's not the same thing. This is specifically for maternity

zero. some have missed their birth of their children bc they’re entered in tournaments, others are able to plan around it. different for older players who can skip tournaments without penalty.
