@Walgreens If you plan to respect the conscience clause, then you need to make it seamless to the customer. Otherwise, be prepared to lose customers.

If she got a message that the prescription was ready, a pharmacist (presumably not the one she spoke to) had ALREADY filled it. All the guy had to do was hand it to her—or have someone else do so. But I’m sure he didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to lecture and shame her...

Agree completely. Walgreen internal policy should be to hand over the case to someone else who can fulfill the prescription. The handoff should be seamless to the customer. It’s also possibly a violation of medical privacy to discuss her case in front of others.

Could we just agree that an adult in this country can make her own choices, especially under a doctor's care? Imposing one's religious beliefs on others is an intrusion, not only on privacy, but on one's agency to believe and act independently.

If your "sincerely held beliefs" make it impossible for you to do your job, you need to find another career. Healthcare providers of all kinds have a duty to the people they serve. Our personal beliefs, judgments, and feelings get left in the parking lot where they belong.

No one has a right to have dinner. Restaurant owners aren't licensed professionals with all the accompanying duties and responsibilities. Don't be so obtuse.

You....didn’t read the article did you? The fetus was unviable (aka wouldn’t have been able to be born) and if she’d left it in there it would’ve killed her. Good lord at least read before going off on a rage fit 🙄

I’ve had a miscarriage. It is heart wrenching. She had already gone through all testing and knew the pregnancy was not viable. To be humiliated in store on top of the emotions already gone thru is too much. Walgreens dropped the ball on this one.

That's what a boycott is, but the point being no one should be worried they'll be denied essential care at any pharmacy.

What I can’t understand about this is how they ever see it appropriate to over rule someone’s licensed practitioner. You don’t have the patients chart. You don’t know the history. How are you even allowed to question?? The job is to fill.

If you want to be the one choosing what type of scripts are appropriate—that’s a different job. How is it ethical to allow these pharmacists the right to deny WITHOUT MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION FOR SUPPORT!

When a hospital board is choosing transplant recipients based on ethics they have records to go by. Huge policy flaw to appease a hand full of states that want power that overrides patient health for personal preference. Pharmacists aren’t the care plan provider.

@Walgreens your “policy” is draconian & needs to change. I am never stepping into a Walgreens again until it does. As a woman who has also suffered from this kind of loss, I am saddened that this pharmacist wasnt fired for this #BoycottWalgreens

Neither Ms. Arteaga or anyone else should have to explain to the pharmacist why they are being prescribed a medication. It is NONE of their business @Walgreens . Their job is to fill it. If they can't do this, they should work somewhere else.
