A new pattern of behavior in domestic abuse cases is tied to smart home technology. Internet-connected locks, speakers, thermostats, lights and cameras are being used as a means for harassment, monitoring, revenge and control.https://nyti.ms/2tmPQPy

And people are surprised by this? Abusers will use ANY means available to them to dehumanize, terrorize, control, and you know - ABUSE. THIS. IS. WHAT. ABUSERS. DO.

Please stop using "domestic abuse" as euphemism for domestic violence. The term disguises & minimizes what is happening. If in addition to assault & violence there are other forms of abuse such as stalking then say so. But widespread substitution of "abuse" is problematic.

The article specifically mentions other types of abuse (in this case) are more prevalent than violence.

So what causes abuse in the lower middle class and poor? They cannot afford all those gadgets? Whew, thank God we have none of those either.

No one said these tools cause the abuse. 🙄 The abusers just have new tools to assist in their abuse which is the point. And these are gadgets that are becoming increasingly affordable.

Those of us who are aka #TargetedIndividuals #electrinicHarrasement this gives us some validation. Still being called paranoid, gas-lighted etc this is also done by our gov. Yep it hurts even more 0 accountability. A bigger plan.

Terrible but not surprising. Not sure how you make sure your design team includes someone who has been stalked or lived in an abusive situation but they might have been useful in designing access/security considerations.
