Why people saying this a bad thing? It's called respect for your elders and people in authority. He didn't embarrass the lad, and handled it very amicably.

agree with you, the authority thing is good. But the fact that he first says: "get a diploma first, and then you may speak" is not something you want to hear in changing times.

It’s exactly what kids need to hear “in these times”. Without an education, you will have little to say that will be taken seriously. You would waste the time of the educated, whose time is precious.

i've heard job dropouts say more meaningful things than people with years of education.. their time is not more precious than dropouts, sorry. Everyone needs each other

Look at the vibe in these responses..like the man doesn’t deserve a level of respect..these days people don’t know their position/place.., a boy vs someone who thru experience and sacrifice rose to leadership of his country and y’all are ok with the disrespect?!?

To all non french speaker who react on this, like that's normal he deserves respect, ok but Macron spent almost 2 minutes humiliating and patronizing the kid. There is way of authority without contempt.

Young people need to be taught respect. That’s it! You cannot talk to an authority like you’re talking to your class mates. It’s all about respect!

We need to get away from all this 'respect-for-the-office' and 'with-all-due-respect' crap. Respect is not a right.
