DELUSIONAL: A TRADE WARS STORY President Trump believes he can outgun China in a conflict over tariffs. "Both economically and diplomatically, a trade war with China would be about as sure a winner as the Trump Taj Mahal." @NYMag #China #Trump #Tarriffspic.twitter.com/ASwceSxW2L

Just because it's bad for Apple doesn't mean it's bad for the economy. So Tim Cook is now an expert on economics? The NY times licks another ass!

In the US, Apple came out in high profile against FBI’s request for access to its phones; in China, it moved its iCloud to a service under China’s control. Fighting for users’ privacy in the US is profitable; kowtowing to the government in China is profitable.

Tim Cook speaks for Apple - Trump represents the forgotten man. The trade war (màoyì zhàn) is a necessary evil to correct the imbalance and systemic theft of America intellectual property. America will emerge stronger from the màoyì zhàn!

Have your senior economist explain to Tim Cook how the US can win the trade war with ease.

No one wins a trade war. Never have never will. It is not a zero-sum game. There are nuances and side deals that countries do with each other that make it so. Global trade is the winner. If a country is dirty dealing, work with allies to stop it. Slapping tariffs is a loser

Global trade is the winner & that's what the ultimately US wants. The problem is these countries benefit from high tariffs that they imposed on US products. This has partly contributed to the trade deficit and is one of many reasons why US jobs are leaving.

Adding US tariffs alone is a losing strategy but President Trump has coupled it with a carrot: the tariffs are removed if countries remove theirs. If they do this then everyone wins. It's mindboggling that US leaders haven't tried this before.

Trump is not doing anything new. Instigating tariffs with the promise that you will remove them if another country does what you want, is a lose lose. The other countries will not comply. They will increase their tariffs, and so on. We, the little guys, pay. Tariffs our taxes

It goes back to what the NYT senior economist noted: dollar for dollar, China can't match US tariffs. That's because the country with the trade deficit imports more products. China relies on US trade more than the US relies on Chinese trade.

Additionally, the cost is not passed on to the consumer because they can buy alternatives. It should be clear that Americans will tend to choose an American product over a Chinese product if they cost the same. The benefit is that money goes to employing more American workers.

Americans will choose the best product. While they may like to buy American, and I do my best to do so, we are smart consumers and we will buy the best product. That is a free market society. We should desire this. Tariffs fuck this up. Trump’s Tariffs are anti-free trade
