A big concern is that parents whose young children take swimming lessons will be lulled into a false sense of securityhttps://nyti.ms/2JHo62j

Is there a sense of security you get by NOT teaching your children to swim? Great hard hitting journalism, NY Times.

Having been a parent who took 3 kids to swimming lessons, the sense of security is not false, but YOU STILL HAVE TO WATCH THEM WHO DOESN'T KNOW THIS?

Trust me, with a breathlessly hyperbolic media peddling borderline panicked click-bait like this on a constant basis about pretty much everything, no one is "lulled into a false sense of security" about anything.

Well I’m off now for my swimming lesson...it’s not life saving week this week, that was two weeks ago when we I learned for the second time how to swim to the side in our clothes. Think I’d rather be prepared if it’s all the same to you #swimming #staysafe #learntoswim #NYTimes

We have a Diploma system where children need to pass a test swimming with cloths on and a small distance under water. After this they are allowed without flotation in public swimming. 90% of kids have this diploma.
