ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK?! Any POTUS could have done it. All that was needed was willing to sell out all American values, not require verification, acquiesce to NK by legitimizing a dictator and ceding power in the region to China -- all for a photo op in return for propaganda.

That’s not really fair. I’ll grant you that he played a role in increasing tensions. On the other hand those tensions have been high for decades; and NK has always been the provocateur.

That is my point exactly: Trump himself created the recent spike in tension in a decades-long unstable situation.

Umm.... it really hasn't. This erroneously assumes that North Korea never wanted to meet with a U.S president before this date. They very much did, Trump just happened to be the only one to acquise to it. They have always sought high profile visits and meetings, always.

North Korea always regularly go through cycles of confrontation and diplomacy. In the early 2000s they initiated diplomatic relations with a lot of nations in Europe, including even Britain. It was a hopeful summit, but let's not exaggerate the reality.

You do not need to be a fortune teller to have predicted this meeting. Two similar egos recognized each other for what they are. They only see their mutual benefit: Big press without making any serious commitment.

Sadly, you may be right. But there's no "prize" awarded to those who are the fastest to arrive at the most deeply cynical conclusions. Some of us are trying to see the glass as half full for the sake of the Korean people. They deserve hope.

@MelissaJPeltier And the icing on the bitter cake is the country where Kim and @realDonaldTrump met: a country rated 151 of 180 in a #FreedomOfSpeech ranking. Disneyland with #deathpenalty
