The U.S. has talked about building solar panel highways for years. China has now done it.https://nyti.ms/2LKtXR9

Why US has not done it ? Because US is controlled by business interests and oil has biggest lobby ?

Because it's a bad idea with many issues. They do not put out enough electricity to cover cost and drive LEDs, the glare blinds drivers, more slippery than asphalt when wet, they break down. Check EEVBlog on youtube for many videos debunking the tech.

Well road may not be best place for solar panels, however what has prevented USA from applying its mind to alternate sources; why research goes on to check galaxy billions light years away but not to solve existential issues like solar panels ! Specifics may be debatable, intent?

I agree. Setting up angled solar panels on the sides of roads has a much better chance of viable green energy than panels on the road itself. I believe plenty of research happens but Trump's tariffs have halted importing of much needed panels. It's a sad state.

What's the biggest problem w/ them? Cost & less efficiency than tilted solar panels? (Which already can be relatively inefficient.)

Cost, less efficient, fragile, being a terrible surface to drive on, traffic blocks the sun..... Apart from all that, a great idea!

It's a terrible idea & it did *not* work. The road showed wear in 5 days during a test in January & the disappeared pieces mentioned in the article turned out to be a small section which had failed catastrophically.
