In 40 yrs of business I've negotiated a few business deals and contracts. IMO Trump badly played the negotiation with Canada. First, his public bluster on Twitter put Canada in a defensive position. We are immediately forced to defend our industries.

Second, I have no doubt that Canada has made out position clear, both publicly and privately over the previous 2 weeks. Trump should not have been surprised, unless he wasn't listening - either to Canada or his own advisors.

Third, Canada's position is one of quiet resolve. We understand that the majority of states are our largest trading partners and are hoping that this trade war just goes away. We also know that mid-terms are coming. Time is not on Trump's side.

Fourth, Trump's irrational tweets after leaving the G7 show weakness. Instead of negotiating, he's publicly crying foul about betrayal. The overwhelming response has been support for Canada - which strengthens Canada's position. Trump badly miscalculated.

Do some research Canada is not screwing the States on anything, we pay high tariffs on tobacco more than the U.S. pays on Dairy Trade is a give & take, they’re are reasons free Trade would not work..

Every single country puts tariffs on goods coming into their country to protect their own industries. If we let unfettered imports of citrus from South American countries it would decimate our own citrus industry.

Of course that's how NATO works... everyone pays their dues,,, which had 2B regulated to 2% of DEFENSE GDP. fair equitable trade means U can not have tariffs on USA & not expect us 2 recoup via tariffs/this isn't rocket science. Left frontal lobe disorder common among leftists

Tis obvious how Trump got elected - uninformed Haters, Basket of Deplorables who can't see any of Trumps faults, have no idea how inappropriate his behavior, how stupid & uninformed he is. He doesn't even understand how Free Trade deals work. Completely out of his depth at the G7
