If you or someone else you know is having thoughts of suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK) or go to https://www.speakingofsuicide.com/resources  for a list of additional resources.

So are we going to pretend this is just sad and unfortunate, or are we going to look for possible causes and ultimately reverse this trend?

We can do both. Meaningful connection and purpose in life is severely lacking in our society. I will practice being more open and vulnerable to my fellow humans.

Highest increase among (young) white men, too. Wonder where all that privilege everyone keeps telling us we have is for these folks? Maybe…and this is crazy, I know…but maybe having white skin actually DOESN'T mean your life is awesome and easy. hmmmm…🤔

Identity politics, a means of those in the halls of power to keep everyone distracted and at each other's throats - to prevent a mass realization and movement against the fact that in this country, success and opportunity for all are now almost impossible to come by.

Economic despair? Wages have been stagnant for a while. Disconnection? Social media maybe (but that didn't really become ubiquitous until 2007 or so).

I totally agree with the disconnection theory. No one sees each other anymore. Social skills aren’t being taught like they were years ago. There is more to that than I think we realize. Our society has become the true life combo of Wall-E and any Werner Herzog film.

Suicide rates increase as essential medications are being taken away. Coincidence...I think NOT!!! CDC needs to do right by chronic pain patients!!!

This is one thing men's rights activists talk about that truly is important. Men are committing suicide in higher numbers. Unfortunately, their proposed solutions are impossible, unjust, and cause adherents anger, anguish, and despair.
