A purpose in life does not help severe depression.

I agree with the being present and available to an individual experiencing depression; but also would emphasize initiating reaching out, sometimes a few times. Sometimes we need a listener, sometimes we need a fun distraction, and sometimes we just need a hug.

Don't leav thm alone

That isn't entirely right... You need to respect their personal space too. They need help but being there 24/7 will start to frustrate and suffocate them. It can and will cause fractures in the relationship with the person in question if you can't give them some alone time.

In my opinion,NO personal space when u severely depressed. That's leaves time fr suicide

-
I know what I'm talking about. I've been dealing with depression for nearly 7 years. Smothering someone with too much attention isn't going to help.
-
That's fine fr u but I also hv mental illness in my fam and in my opinion no personal space when severely depressed. U are entitled to ur opinion ,as I am mine
. Ur not changing my mind friend

Answer: "All of the above". It takes every possible tool to combat mental illness: professional help, time in nature, "me time", a pet, a purpose, exercise, a social support network and, ultimately, a spiritual foundation that's present even when life and loved ones let you down.

If it's not about drugs. And they are depressed make them help others because it's the right thing to do. Helping others that are in need is proven to be mental positive act . It's not always about the money. Helping others is in our nature. People that help r never depressed!
