Because they are already known in the lexicon of American history. That is the reason why you see these kinds of articles that point out women of color in American history who made a mark and helped our country.

I been knowing who Ida B. Wells was for a long time. She's never been as talked about in Black history as Rosa Parks no but she is known to us Blacks who know more ppl in our histories than just Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and Rosa Parks.
