Stood for? She now stands for suicide and abandoning her 13-year-old daughter out of selfishness, pride, and an unwillingness to seek treatment for her demons. Please, find a way to eulogize her w/o lionizing her.

Getting “help,” does not mean “cured,” particularly when she has to go back out into the world where ppl like you exist. It’s mental illness & if you consider yourself a balanced, reasonable person, the judgement you’re projecting after her loss does not exhibit that.

An inability to cope with life isn’t selfishness. People commit suicide because they are sick. Veterans commit suicide everyday. Everyday. Maybe you should get some help?

@H_Begley Exactly. People who commit suicide aren’t selfish. They are tortured and often feel their families will be better off without them. Obviously this is misquided but ppl with severe mental illness struggle daily even with treatment. It’s unfair to label them. #empathy

She refused treatment. She chose to self medicate with alcohol. She was despondent b/c her husband had recently moved out. She abandoned a young daughter who needs her. I feel for her daughter who is now without a mother.

Just a word of caution- it’s this kind of stigmatization of MI that dissuades ppl from seeking treatment. There are a lot of ppl who contemplate suicide on twitter will see your tweets (some of whom follow you). Being selective about who deserves our empathy sends a message

Something is wrong with this picture. Did NYPD detectives exercise due diligence in their ruling this was suicide? Or did they take the expedient way out by blaming the victim? Who would benefit from her untimely demise via a staged suicide? Who hangs themselves from a DOORKNOB?

Perhaps @NYPD is still investigating. The hubby was home but the body was discovered by the maid? Or is a third party in a position to benefit form Kate Spade's death leading police to suspect the husband to the exclusion of other possible suspects? This is a Hitchcock drama?

Agree. I just tire of everyone in the public sphere being required to be some kind of big time advocate for some cause.

I’m sorry she lost her battle with her illness. I find her line of work not as important as you’d like to make it out to be though.
