HuffPost wrote a profile of @AmyMek, a prolific Twitter firebrand who frequently attacks Islam. It revealed her name and mentioned a restaurant in Brooklyn that is owned by her brother and sister-in-law.https://nyti.ms/2JfbTSi

The backlash for the restaurant was instantaneous: It played out on Twitter, on Facebook and in bogus reviews on Yelp. Customers walked out, and the restaurant added security staff.https://nyti.ms/2M1OIZa

The reporter was accused by @AmyMek's supporters of "doxxing" her and her family. Then they doxxed him. "This actually does lead to real violence — that's my real fear," he said.https://nyti.ms/2JfcVxE

Oh. The reporter was just “accused” of doxxing another person but he was doxxed? Um, both were actually doxxed; not just accused. And if doxxing leads to violence why dox that troll?

We need to be careful with collaterial damage to those that have nothing to do with haters. The cure is worse than the disease in such cases.

I love how the NYT frames this story as if O'Brien is the victim. It also shows how stupid the customers of the bar are.

You shouldn’t be able to hide behind an avatar and spew hate. She was reported a zillion times. Why wasn’t she banned from Twitter?
