The backlash for the restaurant was instantaneous: It played out on Twitter, on Facebook and in bogus reviews on Yelp. Customers walked out, and the restaurant added security staff.https://nyti.ms/2M1OIZa

The reporter was accused by
@AmyMek's supporters of "doxxing" her and her family. Then they doxxed him. "This actually does lead to real violence — that's my real fear," he said.https://nyti.ms/2JfcVxEShow this thread

HuffPost should never had related
@AmyMek with her brother and sister in law and their business. Mek’s beliefs are solely her own. I would hate to be accused of following the same doctrines as my extreme religious right wing or my extreme conspiracy left wing family members! -
Oh the irony! Right wing nuts relate the acts and beliefs of terrorists with all Muslims and Islam in general. Go and cry elsewhere. The game is the game. Nobody gets special treatment.

"firebrand"? seriously with that? what's the issue with
@nytimes NOT being able to call a hate-mongering, vile, vitriolic rhetoric spewing, anti-muslim, racist nut-job exactly what she is? actually all she does is LIE & TWEET. that's it. Also, actions have consequences. -
Sorry - actions have consequences- what did the restaurant do exactly to deserve being linked in the story?
-
Her brother and sister-in-law own Mekelburg’s in Brooklyn which has the same name & the backlash was an immediate boycott until they came out with a statement basically saying they have no dealings with her or her views people took her disgusting behavior out on their business.
-
Woman sounds like a real asshole, but did the HP writer really not anticipate mentioning the unrelated restaurant would lead to a backlash?
-
one would think. gotta say tho, a local neighborhood spot one would think the customers/regulars would know the owners & they did the right thing by putting out a statement basically disowning Amy & all her fucked up views. It's sad. She was a "normal" soccer playing jersey kid

They should never have included the restaurant in the story. That was wrong and the reporter should have known the consequences for the restaurant. Shame on him. Shame on the Huffpost for not editing that info out of the story.
-
Indeed. It is the responsibility of every publication/website to edit and research in situations like this. HuffPo bears at least some of the responsibility of this outcome as they failed to do their job.

I feel bad for the brother and sister in law, but that's about it. Actions have consequences.

I’m sorry you’re family is being targeted. Especially as they have nothing to do with her. I’ve read the story in the nytimes and I hope the other
#resistors will see that you are not a part of this. -
Was it in the actual paper or just their website?
-
I’m not sure. I thought both.
