Kate Spade was a critical figure in the continuum of women who have defined fashion in the United States: designers who thought about what other women would want in their closets and who solved that problem without elitismhttps://nyti.ms/2Jev8eH

How did ppl miss this??.. Every pic I've seen of this woman, her eyes tell the story of her unhappiness, even when she's smiling...Ppl need to stop looking at smiles and really pay attention...it reminds me so much of Robin Williams.. he'd smile, but his eyes didn't look happy 😔

"Without elitism"?! $300 bags sold at Nieman Marcus does not quite seem modest.

I am very sorry for her children and husband. With that said, agree “without elitism” is very inaccurate description of her products although for those who knew her, perhaps it described her personality.

Excellent point. The Times could have gone with a better headline. Also, I see nothing wrong with building the Empire as she did upon high-end merchandise. I would almost rather see the story as her being lauded for creating elite products from a modest beginning.

Tjack411: I completely agree your suggestion = better headline. Of course nothing wrong with having a successful business. It is so sad that she felt treatment would hurt the business. I feel for her family, perhaps her legacy will be to help lessen the stigma of seeking help.

Obviously depression sucks and she must've been suffering but let's stop pretending she's more important than all the other ppl who kill themselves every day, like the 22 vets who do it every day bcuz they trusted their govt not to fuck them over.

I bought my first Kate Spade purse when I was 20 years old. It was green & made of a nylon material (I think?). When I graduated from college, my mom gave me another Kate Spade purse. Several years later, I moved to NYC & her shop became a familiar friend I often visited. RIP❤️
