How about they just cancel the entire thing? Let's call it what it is, a beauty pageant that objectifies women. Regardless of how you twist it, that's exactly what it is? Who even watches this garbage anymore?

thousands of girls that compete at a local&state level to earn scholarship money, the kids in the hospitals the title holders meet, the families of the contestants, little kids who feel inspired by the women getting an education, sponsors to the organization...shall I continue?

Beauty pageants are the only way to accomplish this? Don't play the children card either. There are millions of scholarship funds to apply for. I actually run one in NJ. Parents should be ashamed to allows their little girls parade around, so idc about the families. All excuses.

Little girls? What’s the age requirement buddy? 13-17 for teens and 18-25 for Miss. And yes there are a lot of scholarships to apply for! But wining at a state level can be an easy $15,000+!

First, I'm not your buddy so don't patronize me. Do you not see the pageant moms who force the life upon there little girls? And no way will I let my underage daughter get objectified on stage in a dress. So 15k? Take the easy way out cuz you're pretty and "earn" the money. Stop!

I do see those moms! But there are also parents who don’t force this competition on their kids. And that’s your choice as a parent to not allow your child to compete. However, if you think these women don’t EARN this money you are mistaken.

Good news I guess, but these pagents are irredeemably and inextricably rooted in a hyper-sexist tradition. I hope Miss America, etc. will continue to fade into the margins of our culture.

It's no longer a "Pagent", now a "competition", not based on looks, BUT, won't all the contestants come from "Pagents"? Or can anyone now apply directly to compete, bypassing the entire "pagent" system? If not, all the changes are mere window dressing and not real changes

For a contestant to go to Miss America she must first compete at a local level, win her local, compete at state, win at state, then go to Miss America! Hope this helps :)

I think her point was so you still have to go through a beauty potion several times based on your looks, you just dont have to do it the last time. So it's still about looks over credentials. I think we as a nation should vote on Miss America, or at least have a royal rumble

I watched this morning (Gretchen) saying "everyone" can compete now, it's no longer about looks, brains over body, but unless all the pagents that lead to it, change their programs, results of who gets in will be the same.

Well all the state competitions and local competitions follow the rules of Miss America because they are all the same organization. So I can’t see why they wouldn’t change as well.

Yeah I think that was the original question, like I said I think it should be some sort of Battle Royal or Royal Rumble, where the strongest/ smartest woman wins. Not to mansplain how they should be doing things over there
