The French interior minister called her appearance "shocking." The minister of gender equality said she exhibited a "manifestation of political Islam." Her offense: wearing a head scarf during a television interview.https://nyti.ms/2J5a22a

in France some women are forced to wear the veil because of the social pressure of their environment, so this is not a personal choice on their part and this is the tragedy... when religious want to be politicians it is always women who suffer.

As I understood it, women are only allowed to not wear the veil when indoors with their husband. They can't be seen in public sans veil.

What the whole world should be enraged about & the NYtimes, is not a headscarf, but Israel’s slaughter of hundreds of unarmed people in Gaza and it’s sadistic 12 year old blockade of Gaza. Trump is Israel’s puppet, & the times works for Israel. @washingtonpost @latimes @USATODAY

Hijab hysteria is real y'all. Folks lose their minds at the mere sight of one. That says much more about the people having that reaction than the women wearing it.

According to whom? The women wearing it? Shouldn't they get to decide what it means? And before you presume that they are not allowed to decide, you might want to actually talk to THEM rather than relying on Orientalist stereotypes.

So you possess a self-evident truth of which others are deprived that you presume you can impose upon them? How very Western of you. This is the logic of slavery, imperialism, colonialism and militarism. Good citizen of the "West"? I'd rather be a good citizen of the world.

The extremism of secularists is as much a danger to modern societies as is the extremism of right wingers. Not anything less.
