"Any short-term wins gained through such threats are likely to be more than negated by the rising perception, even among longstanding allies, that the U.S. has become an unreliable and untrustworthy trading partner," a trade expert saidhttps://nyti.ms/2L9cSQd

The EU has been progressive for a long time, esp compared to US. The right is rising due to populism b/c of refugee migration due to war and global climate change, due to creation of EU to combat NAFTA, and due to lasting effects of the 2008 financial crisis. (1/2)

Trump to slap high tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from closest allies on national security basis. This could changes but this does damage to US economy. Damage to NAFTA renegotiation & relations with EU. WILL lead retaliation in tit-for-tat duties on strategic US goods.
