Do piece on history of US & intl. asylum laws. It’s been a long-standing practice that stable countries help unstable ones by taking in displaced citizens. It is not a crime to seek asylum here. What is a crime, is to treat asylum seekers as criminals & take their babies away.pic.twitter.com/xnImdyh83l

Far too may Democrats, including Senate minority leader, have been silent on this. And Republicans need to speak up too. You can disagree on immigration but agree that this is horrible.

Trump and the responsible parties LIED again. It's not the law, but rather a cruel, vile policy placing children at risk for political leverage.

Denouncing it and taking action to fix it are two separate things. If they really cared about the kids and not using them as campaign material to rouse their base they would have done something about it by now.

You must have failed your government classes in high school. The minority party has no power to effect, implement or change policy. Democrats are the minority party. Now you're all caught up!

Nice try but you don’t have to be in power to have power. Guess you didn’t even attend.

Not a try, a factual statement. I have two degrees and majored in Political Science. But this is something any idiot should know (you included). If you can explain how the minority party can change a policy implemented by the party in power...you'll get a doggy biscuit.

I guess we can just excuse the minority party from participating in legislative matters if they have no power to change anything. I would suggest a third degree but that would probably be a waste.

Because it isn't criminal to seek asylum, they are arresting the parents for smuggling their own children here. They are making it a criminal offense.

Exactly Bobbi, I think even a newly born child would be pretty difficult to 'smuggle' . This administration has overtones of Nazi Germany in its callousness.
