"What other American company do you know that is spending tens of millions of dollars to try to begin a discussion about race at such a scale and in such a public way?" @andrewrsorkin writes about Starbuckshttps://nyti.ms/2IQGtS1

But let’s not forget that today’s closure and “discussion” is really just PR/Damage Control because of what happened in Philly. If that incident didn’t happen (or if it wasnt so widely publicized), Starbucks would be open today selling overpriced coffee.

It's a start? You mean we didn't wipe out systemic racism in one sensitivity training exercise?

Their response to racism sets a new standard. There is no perfect way to deal with it; their response seems genuine and they are putting serious money behind it.

If we have been having this conversation since the 17th century why does Starbucks think this will change anything. Black folks suffer from a lack of economics. That is the root of why we are treated like this in America.

Don't be surprised if Starbucks becomes a homeless shelter and paying customers refrain from doing business with them.

They should put the Golden Rule on a wall so the employee's can read it. Treat others as you wish to be treated and go back to basics the customer is always right.

From top management down, Starbucks has always put people first, employees with generous benefits, providing clients courteous, fast service, quality custom made products. a rotten apple ruins the barrel is not true in this case. The bad apple gone, the barrel decontaminated.

It's condescending and should, by now, be unnecessary. If there are people who don't know the difference between right & wrong as it pertains to racial issues, they aren't going to have a eureeka moment from a #Starbucks seminar. It's all window dressing. #DoTheRightThing
