The arrest of Harvey Weinstein has quieted critics of Cy Vance Jr. But it's a prosecution fraught with political peril.https://nyti.ms/2IMTg81

Is this the guy that took bribes from Cohen to not prosecute Don Jr. and Ivanka?

Nope. he's the guy who ignored several prior complaints made against Weinsteinand didn't move until the world media took up the cause.

This piece is outrageously parochial. A conviction in this case would absolutely not turn Vance into a "champion for women's issues". How limited is your definition of women's issues? Vance sends more women to jail and prison than any other borough in the city by a long shot.

he also sends more men to Rikers than any other DA separating them from their families-- mothers, lovers, children. He's no champion for "women's issues".

they talk about the challenge of proving sexual assault cases in court as if trials & burdens of proof are still a thing. When Vance prosecutes people who aren't wealthy famous donors, he just stacks charges & detains till he can get a plea w out regard for proving guilt.

do you know what else would be difficult to prove in court if Vance gave most NYCers trials? Resisting arrest. Aggressive begging. Simple assault. Literally any form of conspiracy. That doesn't stop him from caging *poor* people on the word of a single arresting officer everyday.

How about the case he didn’t prosecute and got a contribution from their lawyer? Maybe that should define his career. Wish another borough’s DA would give an independent review of that case.
