Yes, please bring that back to my country, we seem to have forgotten.
-
Yep so I see! NRA think it's 1776, Trump thinks it's 1972, a large lump of the South think it's 1860 and most Republicans think it's 1953

Solid work, checks out

-
Like literally, nobody. Lol.

Not even one time. EVER.
-
My ignorance is showing but I do love the Irish.
-
Well, you love what you think we are, anyway. Here, expand your perception a bit:https://youtu.be/-gjolbjmdak

Ok Dragon Lady. Thank you for setting me straight up. I shall never ever not one time ever again make such another idiotic statement about loving the Irish folk again. You must rest assured that I will never make such an ABSOPHUKKKINLUTELY moronic comment vis a vis you people.pic.twitter.com/o6BnwVo4bN

The Catholic church is a spent force in Ireland. It's galling to see Ireland and Catholicism are still considered synonymous in other parts of the world. The church was almost entirely absent from the recent abortion debate. Move along.
-
They’re the ones who constitutionally banned abortion though. This is absolutely still a story of progressivism defeating the church.
-
Yes and no. The church has had the greatest influence over Irish attitudes since independence, but it was the Irish people voted for the 8th Amendment by an enormous margin in 1983. The people, not the church.
-
Completely influenced by the Catholic church tho. The last laundries only closed in 96. In 83 irish public opinion was still moulded by the Catholic Church
-
I agree, Irish conservatism almost entirely influenced by Roman Catholicism; but by the headline you'd think the church was leading the drive against repealing the 8th this time out. It wasn't. They knew it wouldn't wash.
-
While they were not out there front and centre, the main players in the campaign came from institutions and organisations with strong Catholic church roots. These are the same people that have been closely aligned with the clergy and have pushed their agenda for decades.
-
Oh I know. Iona etc. It'd drive you mad.
