"If women speaking out was the first phase of #MeToo, then the second is proving to be concrete legal ramifications — and public humiliation. Harvey Weinstein has lost the ability to go down quietly."https://nyti.ms/2KYRZYb

There's a lesson here: there will be legal ramifications only when accusations are properly & thoroughly vetted by the police & courts. The trial by social media & public opinion has got to stop.

The media judges and juries have found him guilty and sentenced him to a life of public humiliation and stripped him off, of his wealth. We shouldn't be sad by it bc Hollywood machine is guilty of destroying our understanding of human values. He's one of their own!

I wonder... whom have we become, where "public humiliation" becomes a desirable trait of society?

If I can remember my history correctly, I believe the early New England settlers put "bad" people in public stocks, whipped them, starved them, & the public threw all kinds of garbage at the offender. How far have we come & who taught us?

Bonnie, you're exactly right -- we have a long history of shaming, which fortunately has changed for the better. Until recently. I'd suggest Steven Pinker's book "The Better Angels of Our Nature" for a good history of improving our barbaric bent.

The modern-day version of the scarlet letter is now an S and accused men must wear it in a conspicuous part of their clothing at all times until they can prove their innocence. Interesting reversal of our constitutional right. Caveat Emptor.

I'd say the second is, if you are going to listen and believe, do so consistently. No outs for the Eric Schneidermanns of the world, even if they did good for you (even if it was out of guilt).

Wrong. Step 2 is men standing up to defend women. This is the male role, protect women, they are better than men and it is a mans job to protect them against disgusting humans. Step 3. Create a standard for consent. Step 4. Legal ramifications.

His unabated continuation of toxic habits, and the complicity of the system surrounding is disturbingly troubling as are the accusations. Clearly he needed to stop. And also be stopped. This appears to be a small measure of justice in a system exposed to have toxic features.
